St Mary’s Celebrates its Medieval History

Today St Mary’s celebrated its remarkable Medieval history by opening the church for a Medieval Day. Visitors enjoyed tours of the building, learnt about jousting and bee keeping, and talked about archaeology at a stand provided by Jorvik.  There were a number of Medieval games, some hearty food and a specially brewed beer that was dispensed from a cask at the back of church! There was some left at the end of the day, so it may provide a welcome alternative to coffee after the morning service.

We were delighted to welcome a large number of people from the local area and beyond. We even made the local paper.

A heating oil delivery happened to arrive during the day. The driver was a little surprised to be welcomed by Maurice in full Medieval dress!
