Remembrance Sunday

Thank you to all who made Remembrance Sunday such a moving occasion. The
service was attended by many people from our villages. The last post was
played by a bugler and we sang a range of remembrance hymns.

A great time was had by all, listening to a concert by the Stockton
Synthonia Male Voice Choir.

Harvest at Leake

We were delighted to have a full church for our Harvest Festival, which was
followed by a slap up Harvest Supper. Food was donated to the food bank and
money was raised for the Farm Community Network. The church was beautifully

Thank you Mike!

A big thank you to Mike Eccles, who finally visited Leake after passing
many times on the A19. He very kindly said that we could share his
brilliant pictures with you all. Why not visit Leake the next time you are

Choral Evensong

A congregation of over 60 gathered on Sunday for a glorious service of
Choral Evensong. The music was sung by our highly respected visiting choir
Rectory Choral. This was followed by a party in churchyard, bathed in the
summer evening sun.

Visit to Leake

We were delighted to welcome the Friends of Linthorpe Cemetery who visited
the church this week. After they had received a guided tour and
refreshments, they took an incredible 130 photographs, which they have
kindly said we can share online. If you belong to a group that would like
to visit Leake, please let us know and we may be able to arrange a similar
tour and refreshments in return for a donation to church funds.

An Insight into Cafe Church

This morning, 32 of us gathered in Knayton Village Hall for the latest of
our less formal services of Cafe Church. We had originally only planned to
have two of these services, but they have been so popular that we have
carried on! We had plenty of time to share coffee and croissants before our
short service.

Today Sheila spoke about the amazing work of Christian Aid in developing
countries and encouraged us to respond generously in this 60th Christian
Aid week. Jane Martin told us about the work that Kirby Knowle church does
to collect for Middlesbrough Food Bank. She will make a collection at our
next Cafe Church service. David and Irene Dugdale have lived in Borrowby
for several years. This morning Irene read from the Bible:

*And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in
perfect unity.*

She spoke about the love which they have found in the community here.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter from all of us at Leake. We had a joyful Easter communion
service this morning, which was so well attended we nearly ran out of seats
and hymn books! The children decorated Easter eggs and enjoyed an egg hunt
after the service, while the grown ups tucked into some hot cross buns.

Annual Meeting

Our annual meeting will follow Cafe Church at 10.30am on March 12th in
Knayton Village Hall. This is our most important church meeting of the
year, at which we discuss recent developments and our plans for the year
ahead. We will also elect our church council and church wardens. All are
welcome. The reports for the meeting are attached here.

Report of St Mary’s Leake.

Thank You Trevor

Rev’d Trevor Lewis has been working in our group of parishes for a number of years, but at Leake we have mainly got to know him last year, when he provided cover during our vicar’s illness. He has been a huge support to us. Sadly for us, he is now leaving Yorkshire to go “down south” to a new parish in the Diocese of Winchester. We wished him and Margaret well at our recent Parish Lunch.
